I know how it is to sail on the ocean. I remember the taste of being on the boat, smelling the wind and being taken with the waves. Nice warm days filled up with sun and wind blowing freshly. This is what I really enjoy. I don't like bad weather, cloudy sky, rain on my glasses. I have spent a lot of time on the sea. Sometimes it was painful and connected with seasickness. Being a captain during many races didn't give me the answer: "Why am I sailing?" It took me many years to understand. Ten years ago I took my daughter 18-year old Magda and two sons: 10-year old Marcin and 14-year old Wojtek, to show them how it was to sail. The route I had chosen seemed easy for me. We were to sail from north coast of Poland to Bornholm. Something like 60 nautical miles. It was blowing from SW, I remember. The first day appeared to be very exhausting for the young crew because of seasickness. Finally we arrived at Nexo. One day spent on visiting the Island. On the next morning we set sails and went to Christianso, small island close to the Bornholm. Another day passed and we came back to Bornholm. This time we stayed at Allinge. My children forgot about their sickness. They were happy to be able to steer, navigate and doing all the stuff. When we were coming back home from this short voyage it started to blow much stronger from the east. It was up to 7-8 B. My children looked like didn't care about it. They seemed to really enjoy the race. When the wind direction finally changed to west we could reach Puck very fast. We have done 400 nautical miles and almost 100 hours of sailing. This was first adventure on the sea for my adult son - captain Wojciech Siodelski. He is now 24 but has more experience and has done more races than me. Now I understand the reason why I was sailing.
